1st XI crush highly fancied Chessington, 3rd XI snatch draw from the jaws of victory! (see Results and Reports section for more details)

May 2nd 2011

In 2011 Churt will be looking to build on a solid 2010 throughout the senior section.

The 1st XI finished 2010 strongly after flirting with relegation in the more competitive Surrey Championship 3rd Division. OP Mikey Swartz finished the top scorer with 650 runs and Scott Power was again the leading wicket taker. In what was a very tight league, 7th position out of 10 teams was the club’s highest ever finish in the Surrey Championship. This year the side has welcomed Brendan O’Leary, a 22 year old from Queensland. Brendan has been playing for South Brisbane Cricket club in Queensland Grade cricket over the winter and brings much needed pace to the bowling attack. He will also be very involved with the development of promising players in the junior section.

The 2nd XI season began with another tour, this time to the West Country where matches were played against Weston Super Mare and Exeter University. Both games resulted in losses but the guys more than held their own when proceedings moved to the bars……. In the league they were victims of some inclement weather which denied a late season push for promotion. 8th out of 18 in the Surrey County League Division 1 was again a record finish for the club. Kulpreet Singh was the star batsmen when available and Tim Nicholls also had a good year with the bat. The bowling was reliant on the Askew’s (when fit) and Oli Plaistowe, whose all round contribution to the side is much appreciated. In 2011 the 2nd XI will be hoping to convert the draws into wins and hopefully with good availability, finally make that leap into the Surrey Championship.

The 3rd XI continues to be a mixture of vast experience and promising youth led by the still effervescent Hugh Wylie. A decent haul of 6 wins from 18 games earned them 9th place out of 13 teams. Andrew Meek was the leading wicket taker of the bowlers with 28 wickets, the first 19 of which astonishingly were all bowled! The batting was very much hit and miss with Geoff Thomas and Mark Turkington the most consistent performers. A year on, the 3rd’s will be hoping for more greater contributions from the younger lads and hopefully a higher place in the league!

Churt Cricket Club 2009

The season proved to be very successful. The 1st XI were promoted to the highest level they have played at, the 3rd Division of the Surrey Championship. The club is getting closer in playing standard to Farnham CC who will play again in Division 2 next season – only 1 division above Churt.

The 1st XI look forward to Div 3 next season, relishing fixtures against clubs such as Metropolitan Police and Bank of England.

The 2nd XI had a much improved season under the captaincy of Tim Nicholls. Availability early season was poor and if they had begun as they finished we would have seen a double promotion.

The 3rd XI with the mix of Veterans and Juniors had a much more successful season in the I’Anson league. This is very local and cut down travelling considerably. Hugh Wylie captained the side in the way no other could - his enthusiasm remains boundless.

The Sunday XI led by Colin Wiskin had a good season with games both home and away against a variety of opposition sides.

Churt Cricket Club Clubmark

Churt Cricket Club has recently achieved Clubmark Accreditation

cmsmall

Important Details to Note:

The Club achieved Clubmark status in 2009 recognising it as a safe environment for children to play and learn cricket. We joined only 7 other clubs in Waverley such as Godalming, Rowledge and Grayswood in achieving this recognition from the ECB.

The hard work now will be to maintain our status for Clubmark. This will require support from every member of the club as the Clubmark accreditation applies to the whole club and not just the junior section.
