Churt Cricket Club was founded in 1875 and has played cricket on the Recreation Ground in the centre of the village for over 80 years, having relocated from Frensham in the 1920's. The club runs 4 senior sides, 3 on Saturday's and 1 on Sunday's, as well as having a thriving junior section which has Friday evenings for practice sessions, with matches being played on Sunday mornings. The club has adopted the ECB safe hands policy, mandatory if senior clubs run junior sections.
Churt Cricket Club was a founder member of the I'Anson and Miller Cup competitions in which the club enjoyed much success over the years. In 1991 the club members reached a very difficult decision in deciding to leave these competitions and join the Surrey County League with a view to finding out how far the club could develop in the wider county arena. We are pleased and very proud that the 1st X1, after promotion, was invited to join the Surrey Championship, which is the highest level of cricket in the county. After a further promotion the club sits in division 3 of this league. The 2nd X1 has also progressed, being promoted to division 1 of the Surrey County League in 2004 and consolidating their position the last few seasons. The 3rd X1, who play their home games at the Army Grounds, Aldershot are in the 3rd X1 league of the Surrey County League. The Sunday side play predominately at home against opposition from the adjoining counties.
New members are always welcome and if you would like to play, or know more about the club please contact Geoff Thomas.
The juniors, who total some 100 youngsters have been successful at all age groups, regularly competing at the top of their age group leagues and contesting finals of various knockout competitions. If you would like to know more about the juniors please contact James Newman.
The results will be published on the play cricket website. Within the competitive arena in which the club finds itself it is essential that the club raises funds to ensure that the cricket square, for which the club is responsible, is maintained to high standards.
The club is indebted to its Vice Presidents who provide unstinting support, both vocal and monetary. If you would like to support the club and become a Vice President please contact our President Nick Jones.
